Great Spotted Cuckoo - Clamator glandarius

Pictures by Ray Tipper - More about Ray...

This handsome cuckoo is one of the earliest migrants to arrive in the Algarve from its African winter quarters. The first of the year are with us by February, a few even at the end of January, to be in good time for the breeding season of their host species, Magpie being a particular target. This photograph was taken on 25th February.
