Trisopterus luscus - Pout

Pout

Also commonly referred to as pouting, bib or pout whiting, these deep-bodied members of the cod family are only of interest to anglers as a bait fish, because they are poor to eat.

Pout average around 30 cm long, with very large eyes for their size. The Welsh rod-caught record pout, caught off Swansea in 1987, weighed 4 lb 1 oz (approx. 1.8 kg).

Worm baits fished near the bottom in fairly shallow water will usually provide plenty of small pout as bait for a day's fishing.
