Zeus faber - John Dory

Phylum: Chordata - Class: Actinopterygii - Order: Zeiformes - Family: Zeidae

John dory

This strange looking fish occasionally turns up in catches made by boat anglers around the coast of Wales.

A 5lb 7oz (approx 2.5kg) specimen was caught in Cardigan Bay in 1973, and that fish still holds the Welsh rod-caught record for this remarkable species.

Excited at the prospect of flyfishing? So are we, and we're pretty sure you would find the Winding River Mystery trilogy of action-packed thrillers gripping reading too. Dead Drift, Dead Cert, and Dead End are Pat O'Reilly's latest river-and-flyfishing based novels, and now they are available in ebook format. Full details on our website here...
