Dutch mycologist Jakob Emanuel Lange was born on 2nd April 1864. Having first worked as a gardener, in 1888 he took up a teaching post at the agricultural high school in Dalum bei Odense, in Denmark, and throughout his life he maintained a passionate interest in fungi; his mycological research work and publications were largely focussed on the systematics of agarics (gilled mushrooms).
Jakob Emanuel Lange, father of Danish mycologist/politician Knud Morten Lange (1919 - 2003), died on 27th December 1941 at the age of 77.
The standard author abbreviation J. E. Lange is used to indicate Jakob Emanuel Lange as the author when citing a botanical/mycological name.
