Little Owl - Athene noctua

Pictures - John Foss

The Little Owl is widespread throughout the Algarve, and the best time to see it is in the early morning or evening as it catches the first and last sunshine of the day. Little Owls can often be spotted sitting on the gables of roofs and other old rural buildings where they are much more visible than when perched in trees. The specimens shown on this page were photographed at Cabanas De Tavira.
