Dunlin - Calidris alpina

Pictures - John Foss

The Dunlin is the commonest of the small waders. In winter they gather in large flocks and are an amazing sight to watch when they take flight. They are found in a variety of marshy or coastal habitats, but are most numerous on tidal flats and on salt pans. The specimens on this page were photographed at the Cabanas De Tavira salt pans.
